My friends and I spent three days backpacking the backcountry parts of the famous Great Wall of China. We hiked along the wall continually, while many parts of the wall were completely taken over by the thriving vegetation. After the sunset, we set up camps in the Beacon Towers where soldiers used to live and send signals by creating smokes and fire on the top. In the mornings, the chirping of the many different kinds of birds awakened us. It was such short time to experience such architectural wonder, and I recalled a performance piece by Marina and Ulay, who started from the two ends of the wall, walking toward each other, and finally meeting up in the middle. How romantic, how lovely.
